Construction on an 8,000-square-foot Family Dollar store in Pinebluff is
nearly complete.
The store, which is scheduled to open Oct. 8, is at 155 S. Walnut St. It is the
first new store built in the town in more than three years.
Construction on the building and everything outside is complete, but there is
still work to be done.
"They have not finished the inside (of the building)," said Betty McDuffie, town
clerk. "It looks like it is going to be a little longer, but I think it will be
open by the end of October," she said.
The project was approved last October and a building permit was issued in
January.
McDuffie said the reaction from residents has been mixed.
"Some people just don't like change," she said.
When asked if the new store would spur more development in the area, McDuffie
said the town would, "play it by ear."
Development in Pinebluff is limited because the town does not have a sewer
system; instead it relies solely on septic.
McDuffie said the last new store to be built in Pinebluff was the CP Store, a
convenience store and restaurant that was built three years ago.
