DANSVILLE — The retail "dollar" concept is similar — but not completely the
same — at the new Dansville Dollar at 1369 Mason St.
The store just opened at the main intersection in town at Mason and Jackson
streets.
Many dollar-type stores sell most items for about $1, hence the name. That's
true with the new Dansville Dollar, although technically most are sold for $1.09
plus tax, according to Clyde Thomas, who with his wife Teresa, are owners of the
store.
"It's sort of the same concept," Clyde said. "We also keep prices lower than
others, but we have higher-ticket items."
Those items include farm knives and oak and wrought-iron shelves, the couple
said. They also take balloon orders, and within a month, will expand behind the
store to provide more party accessories.
There is a special kids' area with television and cartoons, plus there will be a
weekly coloring contest plus a drawing for a $15 gift certificate at the end of
each month.
The Dansville Dollar inventory also includes school and first-aid supplies,
makeup, greeting cards and beauty items.
Teresa said it's been their dream to own their own business and "to be out with
the public."
Clyde said he's taken pride in having their own venture.
"We love the community," he said, "and it's something that Dansville didn't
have."
Dansville Dollar is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10
a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday. For more information, call the store at (517) 623-0305.
